Job Summary

Bernalillo County is seeking a skilled Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team. As an Electrical Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, installing, and repairing electrical systems and fixtures in our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and design new or modified electrical installations to meet standard specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepare detailed sketches and diagrams to ensure electrical installations and removals are consistent with the Uniform Electrical Code.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduits using proper hand or power tools.
  • Connect wiring from electrical fixtures to the main source and test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety.
  • Examine and repair faulty electrical systems or equipment.
  • Determine the amount of work and material required for each assignment and submit project schedules as needed.
  • Inform the department head of any complications, changes, or adjustments on work assignments.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, plus five (5) years of experience working in electrical systems and fixtures.
  • Journeyman electrical license from the State of New Mexico required.
  • Knowledge of accepted principles and practices of electrical systems, electricity, and electrical equipment.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, evaluate problem areas, and use initiative to reach solutions.
  • Ability to communicate well with others and carry out safety rules and policies established by the department.
  • Ability to communicate in both oral and written English.
Working Conditions
  • Duties are performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to natural weather conditions.
  • Work hazards or potential work hazards include exposure to high voltage, adverse weather conditions, and other mechanical hazards.
  • Worker is exposed to snow, wind, possible lightning, and extreme cold and heat.
  • Work may include those of a correctional facility environment with exposure to noise and dangerous situations that could involve serious bodily injury and other health hazards.
Equipment, Tools, and Materials
  • Employee handles writing utensils, various paperwork, files, and reports in the documentation of work.
  • Employee operates a County vehicle.
  • Employee utilizes various hand tools, voltmeter, ohmmeter, and other test instruments.
  • Employee handles ladders, scaffolds, drills, hand tools, pipe benders, saws, fish tape, and fuse pullers.
  • Employee operates two-way radio, utilizes beeper, and safety equipment, including glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, back support belts, vests, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and electrical gloves.
