We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Designer to join our team at KBJW, a leading engineering firm in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic Region. With over 30 years of experience, we offer a unique opportunity for growth and development in a dynamic and supportive environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in drafting and designing site developments, including roads, layout, water and sewer, drainage, grading, storm water management, and erosion control. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS Shapefiles, DEM and/or LAS files, and design software associated with pressure pipe systems, gravity sewer systems, and stormwater modeling is essential.

We estimate the salary for this position to be around $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience. Our comprehensive benefits package includes group medical insurance, paid vacation and sick time, short and long-term disability coverage, 401K retirement, and tuition reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop conceptual and preliminary site masterplans, ensuring compliance with various zoning constraints for the given jurisdiction.
  2. Collaborate with local authorities to obtain GIS Shapefiles and DEM/LAS files, and utilize them to create preliminary topographical maps.
  3. Contribute to the preparation of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, spreadsheets, exhibits, reports, and diagrams.
  4. Possess strong CAD drafting skills, utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D to transform conceptual designs into final drawings.
  5. Work closely with a team of professionals to develop construction documents for various land development projects, including residential, retail/commercial, industrial, and institutional uses.
  6. Analyze drainage areas, determine time of concentration, and weighted C-values to calculate stormwater flowrates, and utilize this information to design stormsewer systems.
  7. Determine the horizontal and vertical layouts for roadways and utilities associated with residential and commercial designs.
  8. Create Erosion and Sediment Control plans, adhering to the ODOT Erosion and Sediment Control Handbook and local regulations.
  9. Support Project Engineers and Project Managers with Stormwater Management designs, demonstrating knowledge of the Ohio EPA Rainwater and Land Development Standards.
  10. Evaluate and address site plan comments from local reviewing agencies, collaborating with reviewers to clarify any concerns.
  11. Maintain job-specific quality control as outlined in the KBJW resource documents and checklists.
  12. Provide technical assistance to CAD Technicians, promoting efficient workflows.
  13. Familiarize yourself with construction terminology and concepts related to civil engineering, site design, landscape architecture, surveying, and construction practices.
