The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is on the lookout for a dedicated and proactive Electromechanical Systems Specialist to contribute to innovative research and development initiatives focused on autonomous systems tailored for Department of Defense (DoD) operations. This role involves collaboration within a diverse team, engaging in the design, fabrication, and testing of electromechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
This position encompasses a variety of tasks, including:
- Designing components and control circuits.
- Developing software code for system integration.
- Prototyping and conducting rigorous testing of systems.
- Integrating components onto platforms while adhering to stringent size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints.
Occasional travel will be necessary to facilitate field testing activities. The work schedule will be adaptable, responding to mission requirements and the dynamic nature of projects.
Essential Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 2-4 years of professional experience demonstrating expertise in control systems design and implementation.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
- A willingness to travel as needed.
- Flexibility in work hours to accommodate project demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional skills that would enhance a candidate's profile include:
- Hands-on experience with PCB layout tools such as EAGLE, Altium, or SolidWorks PCB.
- Knowledge in power control design, fabrication, integration, and testing.
- Familiarity with communication interfaces, protocols, and architectures.
- Experience in configuring software within Linux environments.
- Proficiency in robotics operating system (ROS) programming.
- Background in designing and operating autonomous systems.
- Experience with SolidWorks.
- Expertise in integrating components and systems on platforms with small size, weight, and power (SWaP) specifications.
