Position Overview:
The Certified Respiratory Care Specialist will conduct and assess diagnostic and therapeutic clinical interventions in alignment with physician directives. Responsibilities include executing procedures such as endotracheal intubation, extubations, tracheotomy tube modifications, and capnography surveillance. Additional tasks involve assessing the validity of medical orders, transporting patients needing mechanical ventilation or airway management, ensuring the safe operation of devices in the MRI environment, and assisting during Bronchoscopy procedures. The Specialist will also oversee the orientation and training of Certified Respiratory Therapists. Proficiency in the use of mechanical ventilator techniques, Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), and Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) is essential. The Specialist must be prepared to return to work during emergencies, including adverse weather conditions, mass casualty events, or internal crises. Other responsibilities will be assigned as necessary.

Educational Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree (AS) in Respiratory Therapy is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Respiratory Therapy is preferred.
Professional Experience:
  • A minimum of 6 months of clinical experience post-graduation from a respiratory care program is required.
  • Two years of post-graduate respiratory care experience is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
  • Active License as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of South Carolina is required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required (or to be completed within 6 months of employment).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required (or to be completed within 6 months of employment).
Essential Skills:
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and department leaders is essential.
  • Outstanding core customer service skills are strongly required.
  • Excellent organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficient computer skills are required.
  • Strong verbal communication abilities are essential.
  • Capability to exercise independent judgment in emergency scenarios is required.
