Purpose and Scope

As a Nephrologist at Fresenius Medical Care North America, you will provide high-quality patient care under the supervision of a physician, utilizing your expertise and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. You will assess patient care plans and provide comprehensive patient care independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze patient data to support assessment, including vital signs, social history, chief complaint, and current concerns.
  • Alert physicians to patient complaints, particularly those that are life-threatening.
  • Support clinical functions to prepare patients for examination, treatment, or procedures.
  • Document all calls, correspondence, and encounters with patients within established guidelines.
  • Assess patient conditions, learning needs, and provide education on treatment, special diets, medication, follow-up diagnostic tests, and healthy lifestyle information.
  • Round on patients in a dialysis setting on designated schedules.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed by physicians, following established protocols and documenting outcomes in patient records.
  • Triage emergency and non-emergency phone calls, documenting according to protocols.
  • Observe, record, and report patient reactions to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Assist in coordinating patient transfers to hospitals (direct admissions).
Requirements
  • Master's Degree required, with education and training at a university graduate level, nationally Board Certified in specialty area based on NP licensure and state authority for advanced practice.
  • 3 years' experience or 1 year of directly related Nephrology experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with software applications typically used in a medical office, including electronic medical records, scheduling programs, switchboard, credit card machines, standard office equipment, and new technology.
