Position Overview:
The Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health Physicians is actively seeking a dedicated burn and general plastic surgeon to enhance our esteemed faculty. The successful candidate will primarily focus on pediatric and adult burn care while also providing support for general reconstructive plastic surgery services.
Clinical Responsibilities:
This role offers a balanced mix of pediatric and adult burn surgery across two premier Level 1 trauma centers. The appointment can be made on either a clinical or tenure track, with the level determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Burn Care Facilities:
The Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Hospital is recognized as the only adult burn program in Indiana, verified by the American Burn Association. This facility features a 15-bed inpatient burn unit, all equipped with ICU capabilities, along with specialized burn operating rooms, procedure rooms, and comprehensive outpatient services. Annually, the center manages over 300 admissions and treats more than 3,100 outpatient burn cases, including over 900 unique patients.
The Speedway Burn Unit at Riley Hospital for Children stands as the only pediatric burn program in Indiana, also verified by the American Burn Association. This unit comprises a 10-bed facility located conveniently near the adult hospital, handling over 170 admissions and approximately 2,400 outpatient visits each year, with more than 700 unique patient encounters.
Team and Care Approach:
Our burn teams are skilled in managing all aspects of acute burn care, including resuscitation, inhalation injuries, and surgical interventions. They also provide advanced reconstructive services such as laser scar therapy and flap reconstruction.
Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Plastic Surgery with a completed fellowship in burn surgery
- Critical Care fellowship is recommended but not mandatory
- Commitment to education and research
- Eligibility for licensure in Indiana
