Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and assess the medical and health needs of individuals, providing oversight and support as needed.
- Visit assigned homes weekly to review medical records, provide nursing guidance, and complete documentation.
- Interact with primary care physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Advocate for individuals' healthcare needs and provide support to residential staff in maintaining health services.
- Utilize reporting mechanisms and chain of command to address individual and staff issues.
- Complete follow-up documentation for individuals post-ER/hospital visit and review lab results, x-rays, and consults.
- Provide necessary documentation regarding home visits and follow pressure wound policy and documentation requirements.
- Respond to emergency requests and complete nursing assessments and related documentation.
- Provide individual-specific nursing interventions and respond to staff questions regarding medical and nursing issues.
- Maintain current PONS and provide health-related training and consultation to day program, IES, and residential staff.
- Complete annual reviews of medical sections on ISPs, medication audits, and keep up-to-date regarding changes to medical sections.
- Obtain informed consent for medications and provide adequate nursing assessment and supervision of DSAs' competency regarding individual-specific nursing delegated procedures.
- Complete initial medication certification and conduct annual clinical performance evaluations for DSAs.
- Provide training for staff on new/revised medications and policies and complete required medication error documentation.
- Provide clinical supervision to LPNs and maintain professional skills through attendance at Nursing Discipline meetings and completion of online training.
