Suffolk Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Chef to join our team. As a key member of our Food Services Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the culinary operations of our school cafeterias, ensuring the delivery of high-quality meals to our students and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement menus that meet the nutritional needs of our students and staff, while also considering dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Supervise and train a team of cooks and kitchen staff to ensure the efficient and safe preparation of meals.
- Manage food inventory, ordering, and storage to minimize waste and optimize resources.
- Collaborate with our Nutrition Services team to develop and implement food safety and sanitation protocols.
- Conduct regular kitchen inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement recipes, menus, and food production plans to meet the needs of our students and staff.
- Manage kitchen equipment, supplies, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Develop and implement training programs for kitchen staff to improve their skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with our Food Services team to develop and implement food service policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior culinary role, preferably in an institutional food service environment.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation protocols, as well as culinary operations and management principles.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and train a team of cooks and kitchen staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Valid ServSafe Certification for instructor/proctor/examiner.
The Executive Chef will work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, with frequent exposure to heat, noise, and physical demands. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in a team environment.
