About the Role

This Mathematics Educator position is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of educators at The School at Columbia University. As a Mathematics Educator, you will be responsible for teaching an integrated mathematics curriculum to middle-school students in a K-8 setting. This role also involves collaborating with colleagues to design and implement an integrated curriculum, as well as mentoring a teacher in the Associate Teacher Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach an integrated mathematics curriculum to middle-school students in a K-8 setting
  • Collaborate in the design and implementation of an integrated curriculum
  • Keep careful anecdotal and assessment records and use them to write accurate, comprehensive student reports
  • Act as an advisor to a group of middle-school students
  • Commit to the academic and social mission of the school, which requires differentiation to meet the needs of a diverse community

Requirements:

  • B.A./B.S. degree in Education, Mathematics, or an equivalent degree or educational qualification from an accredited college or university
  • At least two years of full-time teaching experience in K-8 public or independent schools beyond student teaching
  • At least three years teaching algebra
  • Teaching experience at the middle-school level, and demonstrated knowledge of adolescents
  • Strong skills in mathematics learning with problem-solving, number sense, and understanding of core web-based technologies and applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Wide-ranging intellectual and educational interests
  • Commitment to equity and justice including knowledge and skills related to cultural competencies
