Bridge Maintenance and Construction Supervisor

We are seeking a highly skilled Bridge Maintenance and Construction Supervisor to join our team at Pottawatomie County. This is a full-time position that requires a strong background in bridge construction, maintenance, and supervision.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the activities of a bridge crew. Key responsibilities include:
- Transporting materials and equipment to job sites
- Performing road and bridge construction and maintenance work, including erection and repair of guardrails, installing and maintaining culverts, filling washouts; and repairs, patches and/or seals concrete structures
- Dismantling and re-erecting steel bridges; and constructing new bridges and boxes
- Removing snow and ice from roads and bridges as needed
- Planning, assigning, supervising, training, inspecting, and evaluating the work of workers engaged in bridge, culvert, and drainage structure construction and maintenance
- Regular and predictable attendance as scheduled is required. Employee must work in extreme temperatures and may be required to work outside scheduled hours
- Clears fallen logs and debris from bridges, culverts, and streams; cuts trees and brush as needed
- Operates departmental equipment
- Surveys and inspects culverts, bridges, and drainage structures, reports condition, and initiates repairs
- Performs masonry work on headwalls, piers, bridge abutments, curbs, gutters, and retaining walls
- Ensures positive public relations with public and staff
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A working knowledge of welding, construction, mathematics, and carpentry tools
- The ability to plan, organize, supervise, and train employees
- Good communication and planning skills
- The ability to operate equipment and read and interpret blueprints, maps, and written instructions
- Good organization and interpersonal skills
- A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement
The work environment and physical demands of this role are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) such as tools, equipment, and construction materials. Prolonged periods of walking and standing on uneven surfaces or in construction zones. Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to inspect work areas, adjust materials, or operate machinery. Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding to oversee operations at height. Strong coordination for operating machinery and hand tools safely and effectively. Good vision (including depth perception) and hearing to monitor safety and communicate effectively in noisy environments. Ability to assess situations quickly and implement solutions in real-time.
Estimated salary: $70,000 - $90,000 per year.
