ROLE SUMMARY
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is a vital member of the healthcare team responsible for delivering Speech Therapy services to clients in accordance with all relevant practice regulations. The SLP conducts duties within the standards of clinical practice as outlined by the Department of Professional Regulation, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and the agency's policies and procedures, functioning under the guidance of a physician and nursing supervisor in providing skilled Speech Therapy care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess the client's functional capabilities and hearing, recommending strategies to improve hearing ability.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing comprehensive evaluations of the client's needs, including Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) assessments.
  • Develop a Speech Therapy treatment plan in collaboration with the physician and adjust it with the physician's consent as needed.
  • Contribute to the creation and execution of the interdisciplinary client care plan as it relates to Speech Therapy.
  • Ensure that physician orders are appropriate and discuss necessary modifications.
  • Communicate with other team members and, when suitable, instruct them in speech pathology techniques applicable to the client.
  • Educate, supervise, and counsel the family and client regarding the comprehensive Speech Therapy program and related issues.
  • Document all evaluation data, treatments, and client responses to therapeutic interventions promptly.
  • Oversee the Home Health Aide every 14 days when Speech Therapy is the sole professional discipline involved in the client's care.
  • Report to the physician regarding the client's reactions to treatment and any changes in the client's condition.
  • Participate in the periodic revision of the physician's treatment plan, keeping them informed of the patient's status and obtaining additional orders as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with the physician at least every 30 days or whenever changes occur regarding the client's status and obtain additional orders if required.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of speech pathology interventions and update the client care plan as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited Speech Therapy program or equivalent education.
  • Licensed in the State of Florida as a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have a reliable vehicle that meets the organization's insurance requirements.
  • Exhibit good emotional health and the ability to physically manage standing, stooping, and bending; must comply with all agency regulations.
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working independently, demonstrating strong observational, judgment, and communication skills.
