Wastewater Pump Station Technician

Job Overview
This position involves skilled mechanical tasks related to the assessment, operation, and upkeep of wastewater pumping facilities. It is an entry-level role that serves as a foundation for advancement within the plumbing field.
Key Responsibilities
1. Evaluate assigned work orders and gather necessary components and materials for the tasks at hand.
2. Maintain communication with the dispatcher and supervisor to receive urgent requests and provide updates on ongoing work.
3. Inspect wastewater collection systems and pumping stations for signs of damage, maintenance needs, and operational efficiency.
4. Verify the proper functioning of pumps and control mechanisms.
5. Analyze system performance conditions.
6. Remove and replace pumps and related equipment as needed.
7. Conduct maintenance and repairs on pumps, motors, piping, controls, and valves.
8. Keep detailed logs and records of maintenance activities and prepare reports as necessary.
9. Ensure that facilities and surrounding areas are maintained in a safe and orderly manner.
10. Perform additional duties as required.
Probationary Period: Six (6) months
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: A combination of five (5) years of education, training, or experience in the installation, repair, and operation of wastewater collection systems and pumping stations.
Licensing: Candidates must possess, at the time of employment or by the end of the probationary period, a Class C Wastewater Operator License or equivalent certification from an accredited training program. A valid driver's license is also required and must be maintained throughout employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with the techniques and procedures for the installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater systems and pumping stations.
- Understanding of relevant federal, state, and local regulations concerning wastewater equipment operation and maintenance.
- Proficiency with tools and materials utilized in the maintenance of pumps, motors, and control systems.
- Awareness of occupational hazards and safety protocols.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Competence in the care and use of tools related to wastewater systems.
- Ability to repair various types of piping used in wastewater applications.
- Experience in preventative maintenance and repair of pumps and associated equipment.
- Basic proficiency in word processing and database management software.
- Capability to interpret motor repair schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Skill in diagnosing issues and executing emergency repairs.
- Ability to utilize various electrical testing instruments.
- Proficiency in operating mechanical and hand tools.
- Ability to read and apply job-related materials, including safety manuals.
- Capacity to operate a motor vehicle.
