Job Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in delivering person-centered services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This position requires a high level of empathy, patience, and understanding to ensure the well-being and dignity of each individual.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support and services that promote community integration, independence, and personal growth.
  • Implement individualized care plans, ensuring that each person's needs and goals are met.
  • Assist with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, toileting, and meal preparation.
  • Encourage and support individuals in developing daily living skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and time management.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure seamless care and support.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and on-site workshops to enhance professional growth and development.
  • Maintain certification in AMAP, CPR, First Aid, and SCIP, as required.
  • Assist individuals in taking public transportation or provide transportation as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with family members, advocates, and service providers to ensure a collaborative approach to care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, CNA certification, or Direct Support Professional (DSP) certificate from an accredited organization.
  • One year or more of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Excellent written, communication, and mathematical skills.
  • Valid NYS driver's license preferred but not required.
  • A flexible work schedule.
