Job Summary

The Special Education Teacher will provide direct services to students based on their individualized education plan (IEP); consult with other professionals; discuss progress with parents and teachers; plan, deliver, and evaluate instructional outcomes; and provide instruction through an inclusion model and/or small group pull-out. The teacher will understand and promote the school's mission, vision, values, and key goals both within and outside of the immediate school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement lesson plans that meet the individual needs of students.
  • Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects, and provide necessary accommodations.
  • Coordinate and provide necessary services for students, including IEP meetings and progress reports.
  • Guide and reinforce students' understanding of classroom rules and procedures.
  • Write and update goals and objectives for IEPs, and document student achievement and progress.
  • Provide progress reports and timely communication with parents/guardians, and establish relationships and maintain regular communication with parents regarding their child's specific needs and accomplishments.
  • Maintain all required paperwork to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Provide a model of exemplary conduct for students, and promote community through attendance and participation in school events.
Requirements
  • Wisconsin Special Education Teaching Certification.
  • Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification required before first day with students.
  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • Additional, ongoing professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience working in a school setting.
  • Experience with the needs of a diverse student population.
Working Conditions

The Special Education Teacher will work in a moderately led work environment, with frequent opportunities to interact with students, parents, and other staff members.
