Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at the Special School District of St. Louis County. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a critical role in helping students with special needs develop the skills they need to succeed in school and in life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate students to identify physical limitations, developmental delays, and sensory-motor dysfunction
  • Develop and administer educational programs based on evaluation results
  • Interpret test and diagnostic findings to parents, teachers, and other stakeholders
  • Provide training for educational staff and supervise programs conducted by educational staff
  • Recommend or fabricate adaptive equipment for daily living needs, communication, and individualized classroom seating
  • Monitor utilization of prosthetics, orthotics, and adaptive appliances
  • Provide home programs for parents/guardians when appropriate
  • Participate in district and/or special interest meetings as appropriate
  • Participate in continuing education and professional conferences and workshops to stay current on treatment methods
  • Assist with orientation of new staff members
  • Maintain student records; prepare progress reports on student performance; prepare other reports as requested
  • Maintain inventory of materials and supplies; submit requisitions as needed
Collaboration and Communication
  • Participate in staffing, building meetings, parent programs, and conferences; maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and the general public
  • Supervise occupational therapy assistants and clinical students
  • Serve on committees making recommendations to department head
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, master's, or clinical doctorate degree in occupational therapy required
  • Experience in pediatrics/school-based occupational therapy preferred
Essential Functions
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and before groups
  • Ability to collect and graph skill programming and behavior data, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Ability to problem-solve and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral diagram form
  • Ability to physically accompany students anywhere on school premises
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
