The Fairfax County Government is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Police Apprentice. As a Police Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills in law enforcement and public safety services. Job Summary

The Police Apprentice will receive on-the-job training in basic law enforcement skills, traffic control, crime prevention, communications, first aid, crime scene search, arrest procedures, and criminal investigation. You will also have the opportunity to take courses in fingerprinting, photography, and various communication systems. As a Police Apprentice, you will be assigned to public service positions, answering telephones, responding to information requests, and performing general clerical work as required.


Responsibilities
  • Participate in on-the-job training in law enforcement and public safety services
  • Assist in traffic control and crime prevention efforts
  • Respond to information requests and perform general clerical work
  • Take courses in fingerprinting, photography, and communication systems
  • Assist in inventory control and receiving/issuing supplies
  • Perform various administrative functions

Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Ability to comprehend the fundamentals of law enforcement
  • Ability to acquire a knowledge of State laws and County codes and ordinances
  • Ability to learn to write accurate, concise reports
  • Ability to use motor vehicles and firearms
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with fellow employees and the public
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethical standards

Selection Procedure

Successful completion of all background requirements and final interview with the Personnel Resources Division Commander or his designee.
