Overview
Fairview Health Services offers a unique opportunity for nursing students to gain hands-on experience in a variety of patient care settings through our Winter Nurse Internship Program.
Potential Opportunities
Interns will have the chance to work in inpatient units, including oncology, neurology, obstetrics, and more, under the guidance of experienced RN mentors.
Internship Details
The internship is a paid opportunity that takes place during winter break and possible J-term, with variable start dates in December 2024 and flexible end dates in January 2025. Interns will work a minimum of 30 hours throughout the J-term time and will have the opportunity to work in primary and team care models.
Responsibilities
Interns will be responsible for real-world experience under the guidance of RN mentors, hands-on experience in patient assessment, intervention, and care planning, and opportunities to work with nurses and other healthcare professionals in various roles and patient care settings.

Interns will have the opportunity to increase their self-confidence in patient care, explore nursing care in other departments, and receive preferential status for employment upon graduation. Every effort will be made to place interns in clinical settings that match their career goals, whenever possible.
Locations
Internship locations may include University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank and West Bank, Masonic Children's Hospital, Fairview Southdale Hospital, and more.
Qualifications
Requirements include being currently enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate (BSN/BAN) nursing program, having completed the junior year by the start of the internship, and having a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Additionally, interns must have BLS for healthcare providers certification through February 1, 2025, and be able to work the same shift as their preceptor. If accepted, interns are required to enroll and participate in the winter nurse internship course at a Minnesota-based school of nursing.
