Recreation Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at the Salinas Valley State Prison. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing specialized programs and services to inmates, promoting social interaction, and encouraging profitable and appropriate use of leisure time.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement recreational activities geared to clinical improvement in the level of functioning of inmates.
- Consult with Interdisciplinary Treatment Teams (IDTT), Primary Clinicians, Educational staff, Correctional Counselors, and Custody personnel to ensure effective program implementation.
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions to inmates, focusing on social skills, emotional regulation, and behavioral management.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care and treatment of inmates.
- Document progress and outcomes of recreational activities and therapy sessions.
- Equivalent to graduation from a recognized college with a major in recreation or recreation therapy.
- Registration as a senior will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of graduation or its equivalent and completion of the required field work before they will be considered eligible for appointment.
- Current certification or eligibility for certification as a recreation therapist by the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification or by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, Inc.
