Summer Camp Director Opportunity

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking a dynamic and experienced Summer Camp Director to lead our team at YMCA Camp Letts. As a Camp Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing our summer camp program, ensuring a fun, enriching, and safe experience for our campers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage summer camp program, including residential and day camps
  • Recruit and retain qualified staff to provide quality programs to our members and program participants
  • Ensure all campers have a fun, enriching, and safe experience
  • Plan and implement the Y camp program in accordance with the goals and policies of the Y and the camp curriculum
  • Provide leadership to camp counselors, including training and daily supervision
  • Mentor camp staff
  • Ensure daily schedule of activities is carried out for all groups of campers
  • Conduct weekly team meetings and provide performance feedback on a daily basis
  • Ensure that all counselors have daily schedule and the appropriate supplies and resources to deliver a quality program
  • Be responsible for camper safety and security
  • Ensure adherence to the policies of the Y
  • Motivate, energize and encourage counselors to deliver outstanding programming and customer service daily
  • Participate in staff trainings and meetings as required
Requirements:
  • Be able to work from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season
  • High school graduate
  • 21 years of age
  • Willing to participate in and obtain CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
  • Meet the county/state licensing requirements
  • Y Day Camp Director certification/preferred
  • At least three summers of experience in day camp, recreation, physical education, teaching, or working with school age children
  • Prior experience supervising staff
  • Work well with and in groups
  • Able to effectively communicate with children and parents
  • Understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to Y character development
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
  • Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
  • Must have visual acuity to observe all children
  • Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test
