Job Title: Environmental Scientist

We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Scientist to join our team in the Department of Fish and Wildlife's Northern Region. The successful candidate will be part of a team working to survey and conduct restoration activities within the Trinity Alps Wilderness, Russian Wilderness, and Marble Mountain Wilderness areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct fieldwork in remote backcountry settings, including hiking, camping, and operating 4-wheel drive vehicles.
  • Develop expertise in fisheries and herpetology science and management, survey and study design, and habitat restoration projects.
  • Design, implement, and monitor habitat restoration projects, and analyze data to inform conservation efforts.
  • Collaborate with staff statewide to complete work assignments and attend meetings and hearings.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain, hot and freezing conditions, and high elevation environments.
  • Physical capability and endurance to conduct fieldwork, including carrying up to 40 pounds over rough terrain.
  • Ability to swim 50 yards and stay afloat for at least five minutes.
