Job Summary:

Riverside Healthcare is seeking a skilled Central Transporter to join our team. As a Central Transporter, you will be responsible for transporting patients to and from various areas of the medical center, ensuring their safety and comfort during transport. You will also perform patient hand-offs to other members of the healthcare team, utilizing the SBAR tool/process for all patient hand-off situations.

Responsibilities:

• Transport patients safely and efficiently, as assigned by a computerized patient transport tracking system.
• Utilize the SBAR tool/process for all patient hand-off situations.
• Follow patient safety requirements/policies/protocols at all times.
• Ensure patient comfort at all times.
• Respond to all transport requests in a timely manner and STAT calls immediately.
• Transport patient-related equipment (IV, O2, etc.) according to patient needs.
• Connect and disconnect O2 for patients, as needed.
• Follow proper infection control guidelines, such as hand washing and equipment cleaning.
• Practice proper body mechanics during all patient transfers and transports.
• Assist with patients being transferred between nursing units and patients being discharged.
• Gather wheelchairs, stretchers, and other hospital equipment no longer in use, and return to storage area.
• Report all broken and unsafe transport equipment to the Supervisor.
• Communicate all information, concerns, and requests of patients to appropriate clinical staff.
• Assist co-workers and other hospital staff as needed.
• Attend customer service and body mechanics refresher courses as directed.
• Adhere to the dress code while on duty.
• Create Great Patient Experiences and embody Riverside Medical Center's Mission Statement.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Respond expediently to needs/requests from patient transporters and other units.
• Establish and maintain communication with patients and coworkers to improve quality of service and customer satisfaction.
• Routinely work with potentially infectious specimens and patients.
• Transport deceased patients to the morgue.
• Perform other related work as required or requested.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• BLS/CPR (to be obtained within 90-day probation period)

Working Conditions:

• Exposure to chemicals: Required to process x-ray films using automatic film processing method
• Exposure to blood and body fluids: May come into contact with blood and body fluids in the course of transporting or lifting patients.
• Exposure to TB or airborne pathogens: Will come into direct contact with patients and have potential of normal exposure to airborne pathogens.
• Sensory requirements: Required to communicate with patient, retrieval of information, procedure verification, and post-procedure routing, nursing units.
• Average hours per week: 40
• Shift: Days and evenings
• Percentage of time during the normal workday the employee is required to: Sit 30%, Twist 5%, Stand 90%, Crawl 0%, Walk 90%, Kneel 5%, Lift 30%, Drive 0%, Squat 5%, Climb 0%, Bend 5%, Reach above shoulders 5%
• Weight required to be lifted each normal workday: Up to 10 lbs: Frequently, Up to 20 lbs: Frequently, Up to 35 lbs: Frequently, Up to 60 lbs: Frequently, Up to 75 lbs: Occasionally, Up to 100 lbs: Occasionally, Over 100 lbs: Not Required
• Describe and explain the lifting and carrying requirements: Help lift patients into/out of wheelchairs. Able to lift stacks of radiographic jackets and carry to file room. Reach above their head for top shelf. Need to lift boxes of paper when rethreading printers and lifting report holders from above cabinets, carried for approximately 10'.
