Appellate Defender

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Appellate Defender to join our team at the State of South Carolina. As an Appellate Defender, you will be responsible for representing clients convicted of criminal offenses on direct appeal and in post-conviction relief appeals before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court.

• Represent clients in appellate proceedings, including direct appeals and post-conviction relief appeals.
• Conduct thorough research and analysis of complex legal issues.
• Develop and present persuasive arguments in written briefs and oral arguments.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure high-quality representation of clients.

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Member in good standing of the South Carolina Bar.
• Rule 403 SCACR requirements completed.
• Experience as a practicing trial or appellate attorney preferred.

• Competitive salary range: $70,000.00 - $82,000.00 annually.
