Position Overview

The Laboratory Technician 1 plays a crucial role in the pre-analytical handling of lab specimens and/or in the collection and preparation of samples for diagnostic testing. This position involves performing straightforward tasks and tests under close supervision.

Organize and verify specimen labeling, manage order entries, and distribute samples. May conduct Point of Care Testing (POCT). Responsible for collecting blood samples from patients, ensuring accurate record verification, and preparing specimens for laboratory evaluation. Guarantees that specimens are correctly identified, collected, labeled, and stored. May efficiently and accurately order laboratory tests. Provides explanations of collection procedures and patient instructions to ensure proper specimen collection or preparation, enhancing patient and caregiver understanding while minimizing anxiety. Adheres to established personal protective equipment protocols to safeguard against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials. Performs additional duties as assigned. Maintains a safe and hygienic work environment. May assist with patient registration or courier services.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: No prior experience required. Licenses/Certifications: Phlebotomy certification.
