Job Title: Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in Internal Wave Modeling
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and independent individual with training in theoretical physics and numerical methods to join our team at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The successful candidate will work on an NSF-funded project focused on mapping the space-time geography of internal gravity wave dissipation and mixing.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Design and implement novel internal wave dissipation schemes as well as diagnostics for identifying nonlinear internal wave interactions.
- Conduct research using state-of-the-art high-resolution global and regional internal wave models along with theory and observations.
- Closely interact with co-PIs at Univ. Michigan, Univ. of Southern Mississippi, and collaborators at Tel Aviv Univ. and JPL.
- Develop expertise in internal waves and spectral models of wave and/or eddy turbulence.
Education and Experience:
- Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Math, or Physical Oceanography.
- Substantial experience with wave turbulence, spectral energy transfers, numerical methods, and development for finite-volume solvers.
- Familiarity with programming languages including Fortran, Matlab, and Unix Shell.
Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per annum based on experience.
