JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Radiologist and/or Diagnostic Imaging Administration, the Lead CT Technologist is responsible for executing a range of technical procedures that necessitate independent judgment, creativity, and initiative in utilizing ionizing radiation for CT scans to assist in diagnosing medical conditions. This role includes supporting physicians in the selection of appropriate applications and technical parameters, while ensuring the efficient daily operation of the department across all functions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct a variety of CT examinations pertinent to the specialty, including invasive procedures and intravenous (IV) insertion.
- Administer prescribed contrast media in accordance with established protocols.
- Assist in interventional CT procedures, providing clear explanations to patients and guiding them in achieving the correct positioning for examinations. Operate and maintain a variety of sophisticated electronic equipment to apply ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.
- Address operational and staffing issues directly, including reviewing evaluations of CT staff. Organize and schedule patient appointments and staff assignments.
- Input key test data and patient information into the CT equipment's computer system to maintain accurate records of test outcomes.
- Implement radiation safety measures to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and self.
- Complete accreditation applications and renewals for the American College of Radiology (ACR) and other necessary governing bodies.
- Provide recommendations to Diagnostic Imaging Administration regarding capital expenditures, operational budgets, and salary considerations.
Education:
- Completion of a two-year accredited Radiological Technology Program is required.
- Registration with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists is mandatory.
- A current license in the State of Connecticut is essential.
- Certification in CT Scanning from the American Registry of Radiological Technologists is required.
- Ongoing Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to meet ARRT guidelines are necessary.
- Current CPR certification from an AHA Healthcare Provider or equivalent within three months of hire is required.
- Completion of approved contrast injection training as per the directives of the Diagnostic Imaging Medical Director is required.
- A minimum of five years of practical experience in a related role as a CT Technologist, including IV insertion, is preferred.
- At least one year of supervisory experience or a role with significant responsibilities is required.
