Job Summary:
As a key member of the Kaiser Permanente team, the Respiratory Care Coordinator plays a vital role in the planning, development, and implementation of respiratory care programs that provide high-quality, cost-effective care for patients with sleep disorders. This position requires collaboration with managers, physicians, and patient care staff to identify and resolve pulmonary care system issues. The successful candidate will facilitate pulmonary care functions that expedite patient work-up and follow-up in both hospitals and clinics.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead educational programs for patients with sleep disorders, providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their conditions effectively.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to design and implement home diagnostic sleep equipment programs, ensuring patients receive the best possible care.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of sleep studies, providing preliminary diagnoses and recommendations for treatment.
  • Provide patients with comprehensive instructions on the use of therapeutic equipment for obstructive sleep apnea and other home ventilatory support systems.
  • Process referrals to other sleep entities and healthy living providers, ensuring seamless care coordination.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of respiratory care programs that address the needs of patients with COPD, hypoventilation, neuro-muscular disease, sleep apnea, and other sleep disorders.
  • Collaborate with managers, physicians, and patient care staff to identify and resolve sleep disorder and pulmonary care issues.
  • Conduct follow-up consultations with CPAP users to ensure adherence and refer patients to alternative treatments as needed.
  • Inform patients of the sleep physician's final results, providing them with a clear understanding of their condition and treatment options.
  • Provide case manager consultations to patients referred by physicians, ensuring they receive the support and guidance necessary to manage their conditions effectively.
  • Consistently uphold the Principles of Responsibility, maintaining patient confidentiality, protecting organizational assets, and adhering to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Embody the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, demonstrating exceptional service behaviors and principles in all interactions.
Requirements:
Experience:
  • Minimum one year of experience in sleep disorder-related care required.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care, Health Care Administration, or four years of experience in a directly related field required.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration:
  • Polysomnographic Technologist Certificate from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists OR Registered Respiratory Therapist - Sleep Disorder Specialist Certificate from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner License (California).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Basic Life Support.
Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Computer skills and experience with nasal CPAP and BIPAP equipment required.
  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Recent experience facilitating performance improvement projects and experience planning, coordinating, and implementing programs preferred.
  • Recent experience in patient education in respiratory disease and sleep disorders preferred.
