Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Assembly Team Lead to join our team at Powell Industries Inc. As a key member of our manufacturing operations, you will be responsible for leading a team of assembly technicians and ensuring the efficient production of high-quality mechanical assemblies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Train and develop assembly technicians to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Communicate daily priorities and objectives to team members and ensure they are aware of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Release jobs to the quality control department and ensure that all products meet the required quality standards.
  • Write purchase requisitions and order parts as needed to support production.
  • Lead and mentor 6S and continuous improvement projects, including Kaizen events, to improve manufacturing processes and reduce waste.
  • Lead quality initiatives and ensure that all products meet the required quality standards.
  • Communicate with other departments to resolve issues and ensure timely completion of jobs.
  • Review bill of materials and drawings for issues and ensure that all products are manufactured in accordance with the required specifications.
  • Assist in interviews and new hire selection to ensure that the team has the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Identify training needs for the group and develop appropriate training plans to ensure that all team members have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Assist in tracking job efficiency and productivity to ensure that the team is working efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist in the employee evaluation process to ensure that team members are held accountable for their performance.
  • Communicate passdown information to team members to ensure that they are aware of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Lead safety and quality meetings to ensure that all team members are aware of their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Support the enforcement of Powell's policies and safety program to ensure that all team members are held accountable for their actions.
Requirements
  • Minimum education level of a High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent Diploma is preferred.
  • 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of system software (i.e. Oracle, MES, True View) to look up parts and drawings.
  • Lift up to 50lbs using proper lifting techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of Engineering Change orders.
  • Read and understand spec sheets and follow proper use of hardware by spec requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of single and three-line drawings, including symbols.
  • Ability to identify part discrepancies and properly write HFDs for corrections.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drawings and designs.
  • Ability to complete complex engineering changes.
  • Effectively demonstrates on-time delivery and the ability to stay focused on goals and responsibilities.
  • Self-starter with ability to take on multiple tasks with a drive to succeed.
  • Challenges the status quo; looks for better or more efficient ways to get results.

Working Conditions
  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, etc.)
  • Working at heights usually no higher than 20 feet in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment and Fall Protection Equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction
  • Continuous standing and walking
  • Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.
  • Frequent use of hand tools and power tools
