Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer Specialist performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services and procedures for adult patients, utilizing a variety of equipment and techniques to obtain comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiograms. Key responsibilities include preparing patients for procedures, obtaining clinical history, and adapting imaging techniques to obtain accurate results.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history to adapt imaging techniques.
  • Perform advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures, making necessary measurements to obtain accurate results.
  • Identify and define cardiac abnormalities, extending the scope of the examination as necessary.
  • Assist physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies to aid in complex procedures.
  • Record statistics and perform daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment.
  • Act as a resource to other staff, physicians, and students regarding equipment, techniques, and studies.

  • Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to explain the purpose of the echocardiographic examination to patients and answer their questions.
  • Knowledge of approved clinical protocols for each type of cardiovascular ultrasound examinations.
  • Knowledge of proper infection control and relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with healthcare providers.
