Position Overview


As a Lead Security Software Engineer within the Software Development team, you will collaborate with a skilled cross-functional team to conceptualize and execute innovative In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) products, employing cutting-edge security principles (both wired and wireless) to modernize all security dimensions of our platform, encompassing on-wing and off-wing Compute, Connectivity, Networking, and Storage.

In close partnership with interdisciplinary teams, you will engage in the architecture, design, development, testing, and integration of software features for the RAVE IFEC systems and products, utilizing a hybrid development methodology in a regulated setting.

You should be a proactive individual, adaptable, and capable of thriving in an open, collaborative peer environment.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of security features, packaging, tools, testing, test automation, continuous integration, delivery, documentation, and construction of complex distributed systems in a low power, low latency, heat-sensitive environment.

2. Problem-solving - troubleshoot, triage, debug, and resolve security challenges.

3. Exhibit a commitment to continuous improvement and take personal responsibility for quality.

4. Provide guidance, mentoring, training, and support across product development and the broader IFE business regarding security best practices.

5. Offer realistic estimates, promote a culture of transparency, and fulfill agreed-upon commitments.

6. Facilitate communication internally, with stakeholders, users, and/or customers on specifications, architecture, design, implementation, and approvals.

7. Actively participate, engage, and contribute during meetings.

8. Leverage other internal organizations to ensure product success.

9. Prepare and present technical information for diverse audiences.

10. Assess third-party and open-source software and, in some cases, implement the same.

11. Adhere to, contribute to, and help enhance both organizational processes and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in a related field (Cybersecurity training or experience is a plus).

• 3-6 years of experience in a Senior (or above) role within Security software engineering.

• 15+ years of overall software development experience.

• 5+ years of proven experience with container technologies, microservices, and DevOps practices.

• Expertise in transitioning from monolithic to secure-by-design microservices with a focus on practical migrations and attack surface analysis.

• Proficient in service-to-service (API) communication security and monitoring.

• Comprehensive experience with security engineering concepts and practices, including system and network security, authentication, protocols, cryptography, database, and application security in regulated environments.

• Enterprise-level expertise in securing the development and delivery of complex distributed computing environments.

• Mastery of fundamental security concepts such as authentication, authorization (IAM), DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, and Microservices/Containers.

• In-depth understanding of networking, including protocols, debugging, layers, security, intrusion detection, log analysis, and network scanning.

• Familiarity with the OSI model and the interrelation between layers.

• Knowledge of hybrid networking concepts (Cloud/On-Prem/On-Wing).

• Secure design of APIs, queuing/messaging.

• Experience securing Kubernetes.

• Design experience with implementing Digital Rights Management (DRM) tools and key/secrets management.

• Experience with decentralized access control in complex distributed environments.

• Proficiency in UNIX/Linux or embedded operating systems using C/C++.

• Experience troubleshooting and conducting root cause analysis of software and hardware security issues.

• Familiarity with formal Engineering Requirements documentation and processes.

• Experience with any of the following languages, technologies, and/or techniques would be advantageous:

- Low-level kernel/driver knowledge of Linux 4.x and 5.x.

- MQTT, IPC, RPC, sockets, and/or audio/video players.

- Development of highly available, fault-tolerant, distributed, or clustered systems.

- ARINC 429 (data transfer) and RS-485/422.

- Understanding of bus design: I2C, PCIe, SPI, MDIO, CAN, etc.

- Experience with various security/cryptography concepts such as PKI, SSL, and TLS concerning embedded devices.

- Windows using C/C++/C#, .Net, web programming, JavaScript, ASP, SQL, Node, Go, and functional compute like AWS Lambda.

- Development of mobile application communications and loosely coupled designs.

- Understanding of containers and virtual machines using Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, or other control planes and compute primitives.

- Experience refactoring/rearchitecting monolithic solutions into distributed microservices, containerized, or serverless with a strong focus on API design and implementation strategies.
