Deputy Sheriff

Join the Warren County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff and contribute to maintaining law and order in our community.

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the position of Deputy Sheriff. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will be responsible for performing intermediate protective service work, involving an element of personal danger, and related tasks as required.

• Patrolling assigned areas to observe for violations of laws, suspicious activities, or disturbances of law and order.
• Responding to radio dispatches and answering calls and complaints.
• Serving warrants, summons, subpoenas, court orders, and making arrests.
• Testifying in court and performing required follow-up tasks.
• Undertaking special assignments such as school resource officer, DARE officer, bailiff, K-9 officer, training officer, process server, community police, etc.
• Performing routine duties in connection with the operation of the county detention center.
• Controlling traffic and crowds at fires, EMS responses, and crime scenes.
• Assisting other law enforcement officers in investigations.
• Transporting prisoners and mental patients to facilities throughout the state.
• Assisting with criminal investigations by presenting evidence, interviewing victims and witnesses, recording, and issuing evidence in court cases.
• Preparing a variety of detailed reports or activities and keeping necessary files.
• May be assigned to a variety of administrative tasks such as purchasing, time keeping, and related duties.

• General knowledge of law enforcement methods, practices, and procedures.
• General knowledge of the geography of the county and location of important buildings and landmarks.
• General knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Sheriff's Department.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to prepare clear and concise reports.
• Ability to deal courteously but firmly with the public.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
• Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action.
• Skill in the use of firearms and the operation of a motor vehicle.
• Possession of physical agility and endurance.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

The Separation Allowance is available to law enforcement officers between the ages of 55 and 62 years that are eligible and retire under the provisions of the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System.
