Veterinary Technician II

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Technician II to join our team at Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. As a key member of our Emergency and Critical Care team, you will provide exceptional patient care and technical support in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality patient care, including monitoring, managing, and implementing treatment plans as ordered by clinicians.
- Assist clinicians with procedures and collaborate with administrative and clinical care team members to coordinate and prioritize patient care.
- Complete diagnostic testing, including bench-top lab tests, and provide technical assistance for clinical, academic, and research purposes.
- Maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals, and clean and maintain clinical areas.
- Instruct veterinary students and student technicians in all technical aspects of patient care, and provide technical assistance in academic and clinical research.
- Provide coverage for other sections of the hospital as needed, and participate in service and hospital-wide initiatives.
- Mastery of basic technical skills associated with veterinary technology, including mandatory skills such as safely restraining cats and dogs, assessing attitude and responsiveness, and obtaining vital signs.
- High School diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician in a fast-paced hospital, or an Associate or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA-accredited institution and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology and veterinary pharmacology, and experience with Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems.
- Bachelor's or Associate's Degree from an AVMA-accredited institution.
- Certified Veterinary Technician eligible.
- Experience in a specialty or academic hospital setting.
- Exotic animal handling skills desirable.
Tufts University offers a competitive salary range of $26.70-$36.80 per hour, with a minimum starting rate of $27.00 per hour in this specialty department. Shift differentials are also offered, depending on the day and scheduled shift.
The schedule for this position is an alternating weekends, Wed-Fri or Thur-Sat 5p-6a.
