Graduate Assistant in Behavioral Sciences

The Graduate Assistant (GA) plays a pivotal role within the School of Behavioral Sciences, providing essential academic support to the University community. This position requires independent work, sound judgment, and discretion while engaging in various responsibilities that may include supervising students, evaluating academic submissions, organizing schedules, and facilitating lectures. The GA is expected to work up to 20 hours per week throughout their contracted period.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the Dean, Department Chair, or assigned Professor, the GA will:
- Participate in all departmental and Graduate School events, ensuring active engagement.
- Attend mandatory orientations and training sessions as directed.
- Adhere to the Community Standards and Honor Code, as well as the Graduate Assistantship Handbook.
- Create and modify various documents using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Assess both subjective and objective assessments, including quizzes, tests, and written assignments, within the designated timeframes.
- Communicate effectively with students regarding attendance, course-related inquiries, and other essential matters via appropriate channels.
- Manage excused absences and coordinate accommodations for students as directed by the Office of Disability Accommodation Support.
- Maintain regular office hours to ensure availability for student interactions, either in person or through virtual platforms.
- Assist with various administrative tasks and projects as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the department's goals.
- Represent Liberty University in a professional manner, adhering to institutional policies and values.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Must be accepted into or currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program by the start date.
- Preferred candidates will have prior teaching experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Ability to understand and utilize all technical systems relevant to the GA role.
- Local residency is necessary for on-campus reporting.
Communication
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly and professionally.
- Proficient in English to ensure effective correspondence.
- Strong public communication abilities to represent the University positively.
- Excellent organizational and scheduling skills.
- Ability to analyze information and apply sound judgment to resolve routine and complex issues.
- Ability to travel to various campus locations as needed.
- May require prolonged periods of sitting for desk work or typing.
- Regularly required to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
- Must be able to navigate the campus, including stairs and various terrains.
- Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be necessary.
The GA will typically work in a climate-controlled, well-lit office environment with moderate noise levels. Occasional outdoor event facilitation may be required.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
Use of personal or University vehicles may be necessary for job-related travel. A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required.
