Speech Therapist

The Speech Therapist will work with individual students, families, and YWCA personnel to support the adjustment of children with special needs within the YWCA's childcare programs by evaluating, diagnosing, and addressing speech, language, and communication difficulties.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children within YWCA's childcare programs.
Conduct appropriate assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
Communicate with the child, their family members, physicians, and teachers to design effective treatment plans.
Provide counseling to child and family members about results of testing and recommended treatment options.
Establish patient and/or family understanding, expectations, and goals for treatment.
Administer planned treatment plans, monitor progress, and evaluate results and progress of speech therapy.
Implement changes to treatment plan or therapy programs as required.
Document service delivery and all communications with family members.
Ensure accurate documentation and create necessary reports that track progress and results.
Delegate duties to support personnel as appropriate.
Maintain communication with staff and outside agencies per state guidelines.
Refer patients to medical specialists in dentistry, psychology, or other related fields.
Support YWCA personnel with strategies and accommodations to benefit children with special needs including speech difficulties.
Recognize and implement compliance with Texas Department of Human Services Minimum Standards for childcare settings.
Maintain professional knowledge to provide clients with the best treatment program available.
Comply with federal, state, and local certification requirements.
Job Qualifications
A Master's degree in speech therapy or speech-language pathology is preferred. Relevant license and certification are also required. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as high levels of patience and tolerance when handling children. Good analytical and problem-solving abilities are also essential. The ability to relate well with a variety of populations and present oneself professionally in appearance and mannerism at all times is also required.
Work Environment
The work environment for this position is dynamic and may involve working in a variety of settings, including childcare programs and outdoor events. The noise level may vary between quiet and loud, and the pace may be deliberate or fast. The outdoor climate may also vary between cold and hot, including conditions such as wind, dust, and precipitation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
