Job Summary:
As a Pathologist Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in the performance of anatomic pathology practice under the supervision and control of a physician pathologist. Your responsibilities will include preparation and examination of surgical pathology specimens, postmortem dissection with written description, and preparation of tissue sections. You will also perform other procedures related to pathologists' duties, such as quality control and management of equipment and supplies in the surgical pathology laboratory and autopsy suite.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct postmortem examinations and descriptions.
  • Process surgical pathology specimens, including dissection, description, and embedding for pathologists' diagnosis.
  • Prepare fine needle aspiration specimens and frozen sections for pathologists' interpretation.
  • Ensure quality control and management of equipment and supplies in the surgical pathology laboratory and autopsy suite.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and projects for the Pathology Department.
  • Uphold standards of practice, policies, and procedures as contained in the Department's Policy and Procedure Manuals in the surgical pathology and autopsy service.
  • Stay current with established and new practices and techniques in surgical and autopsy pathology.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a National Accrediting agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited pathologists' assistant training program and/or a current Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Pathologist's Assistant Certificate from American Society for Clinical Pathology.
  • Fellowship and/or National Certification of Pathologists Assistants must be maintained as long as one works at this position.
  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a Pathology Department.
  • Masters Degree.

Notes:

  • Travel to KP Murrieta and KP Riverside as needed.
  • May cover Saturdays as necessary.
