Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Water and Wastewater Treatment Operator. This role involves performing routine tasks under supervision related to the operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities. Responsibilities include assisting in maintaining compliance with environmental standards and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the facilities.

Work Schedule

This position requires travel between service areas. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, with the possibility of after-hours and weekend on-call support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct repairs and maintenance on equipment, coordinating with external vendors for major repairs as necessary.
  • Assist in emergency response procedures for chemical spills or overflow situations, following established safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, including meter readings, tests, and chemical usage, as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of treatment plants and associated facilities.
  • Promote a safe working environment by reporting safety concerns to management.
  • Perform inspections of facilities and vehicles, addressing any follow-up actions needed.
  • Direct customer inquiries to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of mechanical experience is required.

Education and Certifications

  • High school diploma is required, along with the ability to obtain a First-Level operator license within one year of employment.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Holding a first-level operator license is preferred.
  • Experience in chemical treatment of water or wastewater is advantageous.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and mechanical repairs.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents and maintaining accurate operational records.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Competence in mathematical calculations for chemical dosing and treatment processes.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and regulatory bodies.
  • Familiarity with computer applications and the ability to learn internal software systems.

Work Environment

  • Flexibility to work after hours and weekends as needed.
  • Some travel within service areas may be required.
  • Availability for shift work is necessary.
