Job Summary:

The Building Inspector will work closely with the Community Development Department to enforce building codes, inspect construction sites, and provide guidance to builders, architects, and the public on building regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect buildings and structures at various stages of construction to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances.
  • Review plans and specifications to verify compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Provide information and guidance to builders, architects, and the public on building codes and regulations.
  • Keep records of inspections and actions taken.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and resolve issues in a professional and courteous manner.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
  • Four years of full-time paid experience in building trades, enforcing building codes, or experience with the public interpreting building codes required.
  • Certification as a Commercial Building Inspector and/or Residential Building Inspector by the International Code Council required within one year of appointment.
Working Conditions:

The Building Inspector will work in a fast-paced environment, frequently traveling to construction sites, and may be required to lift and move up to 35 pounds. The position requires excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
