Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled Clinical Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team at Horry County Schools. As a Speech-Language Therapist, you will provide speech and language services to students with varying needs, ensuring they receive the support necessary to succeed academically and socially.

The ideal candidate will have a valid SC Certification as a Speech Language Therapist, a valid Speech Pathologist License from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (SCLLR), and an American Speech-Language Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide skilled speech/language consultation, screening, evaluation, and therapy services consistent with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of appropriate speech language programming to facilitate effective communication skills for students in the educational setting.
  • Schedule and participate in meetings with stakeholders to develop Individualized Education Plans for eligible speech-language impaired students.
  • Design and implement therapeutic programs based on goals and objectives from students' Individualized Education Plans to meet the needs of the speech and language impaired population.
  • Consult with teachers regarding referral processes for students with suspected and/or identified speech-language impairments.
  • Evaluate and diagnose students with speech-language needs, following state and local guidance for the identification of students with speech-language impairments.
  • Screen students according to established district procedures, fulfilling Child Find responsibilities for all students with suspected speech-language impairments.
  • Provide consultative services to classroom teachers and other school staff members regarding strategies and intervention supports to facilitate student participation in the general education environment.
  • Consult with parents and families of speech/language impaired students, providing educationally relevant information, strategies, and suggestions as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records for each individual student, including timely submission of records required as part of the IEP process.
  • Record therapy session data, evaluation & re-evaluation data, and progress summaries for all students identified and determined eligible for speech-language services.

Requirements:

  • Valid SC Certification as a Speech Language Therapist.
  • Valid Speech Pathologist License from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (SCLLR).
  • American Speech-Language Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lift or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for using a telephone and data entry.
  • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
