Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) customized to meet the specific needs of each student.
- Deliver direct instruction across multiple subjects, modifying teaching strategies and resources to suit diverse learning preferences.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers, school personnel, and families to promote students' educational objectives.
- Conduct evaluations to assess students' strengths and areas needing improvement.
- Track and document students' progress, making instructional adjustments as needed to foster ongoing development.
- Employ assistive technology and various resources to enrich the learning experience.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that supports social and emotional development.
- Engage in IEP meetings, parent-teacher discussions, and professional growth opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Special Education endorsement.
Illinois Special Education Certifications:
- LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I): This endorsement is mandatory for all Special Education educators in Illinois.
- LBS2 (Learning Behavior Specialist II): Advanced certification for those aiming to specialize in specific disabilities or grade levels.
- Additional endorsements may include areas such as Early Childhood Special Education, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or Visual Impairments, based on the specific needs of the educational institution.
Special Education Responsibilities:
- Full-time dedication to fostering the academic, social, and emotional growth of students with special needs.
- Regularly updating and managing student records, IEPs, and progress documentation.
- Collaborating closely with other educational professionals and support staff to ensure comprehensive student assistance.
