POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the role involves executing a range of professional responsibilities to support the planning initiatives of the City. This includes preparing detailed reports and analyses related to various projects within the Community Development Department, conducting thorough research on zoning and planning challenges, and providing essential information to the public regarding planning regulations and programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage in diverse professional tasks to support both current and advanced planning efforts.
- Respond to inquiries from the public and governmental entities through various communication channels.
- Assist developers, property owners, and the community by providing guidance on laws, regulations, and procedures related to planning applications.
- Prepare staff analyses for projects presented to the Planning Commission and City Council.
- Conduct planning and land use surveys, and perform related research activities.
- Interact with the public regarding planning regulations, including those related to planned developments and condominium ordinances.
- Prepare initial environmental assessments and manage grant applications, particularly for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
- Act as a liaison for the City with federal, state, and local agencies.
- Complete special projects as assigned and perform related duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proficient understanding of community planning operations and services, urban planning principles, and relevant state and federal laws. Familiarity with statistical methods for data collection and analysis, as well as modern office practices and software applications. Ability to interpret technical information, prepare comprehensive reports, and deliver excellent customer service.
Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills is required. Typically, this includes a degree in planning, public administration, or a related field, along with two years of professional experience in planning.
Licenses/Certificates: A valid Class C California Driver's License with a clean driving record is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position primarily operates in an office setting, with occasional travel to various sites. Work may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess the physical ability to work in an office environment, including the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, and communicate effectively.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Normal vision and hearing capabilities are necessary for effective communication and task performance.
