Job Description

Institute for Community Living (ICL) is a non-profit organization that has been providing life-saving care to New Yorkers in need for over 35 years. Our services include addiction assistance, mental health services, and housing support for all. We strive to have a positive and long-lasting impact on the lives of the people and communities we serve.

We are currently seeking a part-time Direct Support Professional II to join our team. As a DSP II, you will be responsible for providing a variety of levels of support and services to individuals with severe intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). This includes encouraging, guiding, teaching, and advocating for these individuals.

Our residential programs are located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and The Bronx, and we provide 24/7 on-site service in buildings with 4 to 14 occupants. As a DSP II, you will work with individuals to promote their growth and independence, and provide program assistance to help them achieve their goals.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support and services to individuals with IDD, including encouraging, guiding, teaching, and advocating for them.
  • Work with individuals to promote their growth and independence, and provide program assistance to help them achieve their goals.
  • Assist individuals with daily living tasks, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
  • Accompany individuals to medical, dental, and other health-related appointments.
  • Provide transportation for individuals to community events and activities.
  • Assist individuals with household chores, such as cleaning and laundry.
  • Teach and reinforce skills, such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and financial management.
  • Document and report on individual progress and behavior.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of experience working with individuals with IDD preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
