Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Ambulatory Surgery department is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accepts patient care assignments as designated and collaborates effectively with the clinical team.
  • Engages with patients to evaluate their understanding of surgical procedures and expectations, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Involves patients and their families in care planning, education, and discharge processes, utilizing appropriate teaching resources.
  • Plans and executes patient care by applying fundamental nursing skills, monitoring, and documenting patient responses accurately.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and follows up with patients post-operatively.
  • Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and knows when to escalate concerns to management or other healthcare professionals.
  • Communicates pertinent changes in patient conditions to physicians promptly and maintains accurate documentation of care provided.
  • Administers medications and treatments in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Applies evidence-based practices to deliver age-appropriate nursing care tailored to the clinical needs of patients.
  • Maintains a vigilant and safe working environment.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent educational background for licensure.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly engages in verbal communication to convey information.
  • Frequently stands and walks.
  • Involves lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Engages in sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks.
  • Requires visual acuity for near and far distances and color differentiation.
  • Utilizes olfactory senses to recognize odors.
  • Listens attentively to oral communications and monitors body sounds.
  • Occasionally lifts and moves objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally assists in lifting patients.
  • Involves bending, stooping, kneeling, and other physical movements.
  • Rarely requires crawling or running.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)

For Missouri:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State

For Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
