LEAD WI-FI SYSTEMS SOFTWARE ENGINEER (STARLINK)

As part of our innovative team, you will play a pivotal role in the deployment of Starlink, the most advanced broadband internet system globally. Starlink represents the largest satellite constellation in existence, delivering fast and reliable internet access to millions of users worldwide. Our work encompasses the design, construction, testing, and operation of every component of this system, including thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow for quick connectivity, and the software that integrates it all. We are only beginning to realize Starlink's potential impact on communities and businesses around the globe, and we seek top-tier engineers to enhance its capabilities.

In your role as a Lead Wi-Fi Systems Software Engineer, you will be essential to shaping the overall customer experience. We are in search of specialists in the Wi-Fi domain to ensure Starlink provides an exceptional end-to-end user experience. You will possess a comprehensive understanding of the broader context, prioritize effectively, and navigate various levels of abstraction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading the development of the Wi-Fi software and product strategy.
  • Diagnosing and enhancing kernel-level system performance.
  • Collaborating with RF and EE engineers to refine our testing methodologies for both software and hardware.
  • Guiding and mentoring software engineers while fostering a positive work environment.
  • Enhancing our Wi-Fi mesh performance.
  • Creating innovative tools that facilitate more frequent and reliable software deployments, test executions, and data analyses as part of a continuous integration and release framework.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related STEM field, with a minimum of 10 years of professional software development experience; or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 8 years of development experience in C or C++.
  • Familiarity with IEEE wireless standards and networking protocols (UDP, TCP/IP, etc.).
  • Experience in developing embedded software for networking devices.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with networking kernel modules and drivers.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of networks, embedded systems, mathematics, and physics.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Experience in testing Wi-Fi for performance or stability.
  • In-depth understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment, and continuous monitoring.
  • Knowledge of DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, Linux bridging, and network stack internals.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional projects.
  • Familiarity with security challenges associated with distributed systems and internet services.
  • Proficiency in Golang and Python.
  • Experience with hostAP.
  • Able to thrive in a dynamic environment with evolving needs and requirements.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi chipsets.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary range for this position is competitive, with potential earnings between $200,000 and $270,000 annually. Your actual compensation will be determined based on your qualifications, experience, and job-related skills.

In addition to base salary, you may be eligible for long-term incentives, including company stock options, cash awards, and discretionary bonuses. You will also have access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other benefits. Employees accrue three weeks of paid vacation and are eligible for ten or more paid holidays each year. Exempt employees receive five days of sick leave annually.
