Role Overview:
The Lead Geotechnical Engineer will report to the Senior Manager of Technical Services and will play a crucial role in enhancing engineering and procurement processes across various projects. This position is pivotal in overseeing mining designs, mine planning, and earthworks associated with operations.
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be expected to utilize their expertise to perform the following duties:
- Engage in engineering feasibility assessments to identify necessary studies for mine-site facilities, along with estimating capital and operational costs and workforce requirements.
- Draft technical documentation (geotechnical and soil reports) to support structural designs for diverse projects.
- Contribute to the design of geotechnical and civil structures, including foundations and piles.
- Analyze and interpret data from geotechnical instrumentation and testing programs, providing design recommendations for structural foundations.
- Offer recommendations for design, engineering, and construction adaptations and modifications.
- Prepare budgets for supervised areas, ensure compliance with financial plans, oversee significant capital projects, and manage external consultants and contractors.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining, Geological, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Over 10 years of experience in mining and construction sectors.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software (e.g., Slide, MinePlan).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and MS Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Capable of effectively communicating at all organizational levels.
- Experience with open-pit and mining projects.
- Understanding of budget and cost management principles.
The physical demands of this role require regular communication, standing, walking, and the ability to lift and move weights up to 50 pounds. The work environment may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor conditions. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a vehicle safely.
