Job Summary

The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews is seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for managing the month-end close process, financial reporting, and budgeting processes. You will also conduct financial analysis and provide accurate and timely interpretation of financial data to our management team, board of directors, auditors, and tax authorities.

We are looking for an individual with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification. A minimum of 7 years' experience in non-profit reporting accounting or finance, including 3 years of management experience, is required. A master's degree in accounting or finance is preferred. Experience in a charitable non-profit environment with high-volume donor transactions and public accounting experience is also preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly closing process to ensure integrity and accuracy.
  • Assure general ledger transactions are accurate and have adequate supporting documentation.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of monthly organization financial reports.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain tools, systems, and procedures that ensure internal controls and accuracy on an ongoing basis.
  • Liaise with external accountants to manage the audit and 990, and create schedules necessary for the preparation of annual documentation.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) especially as they relate to non-profit organizations.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of non-profit tax preparation (990s) and compliance with IRS guidelines as they relate to charitable organizations.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office Suite 365 with intermediate to advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Skilled in preparing and reviewing financial statements, including account analysis, financial reporting, and general ledger with an eye for details.
  • Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with sophisticated accounting systems.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to 'tell a story' from the numbers and make sound recommendations.
  • Strong ability to provide management with solutions-based financial analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail and excellent follow-up.
  • Ability to successfully mentor and coach staff.
  • Strong organizational, project, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced atmosphere with tight timelines, working on multiple projects at a time.
