Purpose of the role:

As a Materials Specialist at Crown Cork & Seal USA, Inc., you will be responsible for managing the specifications and qualifications of metal & coatings packaging materials. You will work closely with the prime materials team to ensure compliance with Crown's Materials Qualification Process and collaborate with the Regulatory team to ensure new materials meet regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Technical leadership for aluminium & steel specifications and qualifications in North & South America and Europe
  • Adhere to and support the Crown Materials Qualification Process, ensuring conformance of suppliers and working with the Regulatory team to ensure compliance of new materials
  • Closely cooperate with Crown's Purchasing Group, Crown's business sectors, and other teams within Corporate Technology (CT) to manage the approval of new materials, standardization, or quality performance
  • Support ongoing improvement in plant performance through hands-on technical support, providing expertise, knowledge management, and transfer of best practices
  • Excellent service support for failure investigations of materials as technical support to Crown's businesses
  • Attend material production and component manufacturing trials when required
  • Support supplier audits as requested by the businesses and Sourcing
  • Strong collaboration required with the Packaging Science team in Wantage to support qualifications and failure investigation resolution
  • Support the EHS program and continuous improvement in team performance
  • Support joint developments with suppliers where better materials, processes, or novel surfaces offer performance or efficiency advantages

Requirements:

Preferred Requirements:

  • Postgraduate Degree
  • Demonstrable know-how and skills in managing materials-related projects
  • Six Sigma or related training and practical experience of these techniques
