Position Overview

The Mining Operations Laborer is responsible for executing a range of essential labor tasks within a mining site or processing facility. This role typically involves working in rotating shifts that align with the operational hours of the organization, under the guidance of supervisory personnel. The individual in this position will interact daily with various teams across the site, ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately and efficiently, as each activity is vital to the overall success of the operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Excavate materials such as muck, stone, gravel, and sand from around conveyor systems.
  • Load materials onto conveyor belts.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the mining area, processing plant, and associated facilities.
  • Utilize high-pressure water hoses for cleaning workspaces.
  • Construct and upkeep drainage systems.
  • Support mechanics and skilled tradespeople in obtaining and relocating parts, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist in routine maintenance and significant repair tasks.
  • Help in cleaning parts, materials, and machinery.
  • Work during mandatory overtime as required.
  • Substitute for other team members as directed, which may involve operating mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or team leads.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a similar role is required, equivalent to at least thirty days of training or hands-on experience.
  • Capability to perform emergency rescue operations.
Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to follow established routines while meeting performance standards.
  • General understanding of safety protocols and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Proficient in the operation of all relevant equipment.
  • Performance will be evaluated based on efficiency, as observed through regular assessments.
  • Ability to follow simple instructions with one or two steps.
  • Basic arithmetic skills, including addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers and understanding of measurement units.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to identify safety hazards and equipment issues and respond appropriately.
  • Willingness to engage in further training related to job responsibilities.
  • Potential to develop mechanical and/or welding skills for career advancement.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work scheduled shifts and be adaptable to changes in scheduling, including overtime and weekend work.
  • Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and outdoor conditions.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment while on site.
Physical Demands
  • Involves walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant extent.
  • Heavy physical work: Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly to ensure safety around heavy machinery.
  • Must be capable of performing all job functions, including operating controls.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screening prior to employment.
