About the Role

The Laboratory Assistant plays a vital part in our laboratory team, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various clerical duties, including computer entry, filing, and telephone communication.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who can greet patients and other visitors in a polite and friendly manner. The ideal candidate will also possess good knowledge of laboratory terminology and phlebotomy procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform computer entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
  • Demonstrate good telephone etiquette and greet patients and other visitors in a polite and friendly manner.
  • Possess good communication skills and demonstrate adequate knowledge of laboratory terminology.
  • Process microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens.
  • Stock and order routine supplies, maintain cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas.
  • Process or place specimens on laboratory instruments in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  • Perform arterial, venipuncture, and capillary draws, as well as point-of-care testing (if licensed).
  • Train new employees and students, and follow all Standard Operating Procedures.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions (preferred).
  • Certification obtained as a Lab Assistant from a National or State accredited venipuncture program within the past 12 months or 12 months experience as a licensed phlebotomist.

Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000 per annum
