Job Summary

The Athletic Trainer I position at Sonoma State University is responsible for providing clinical athletic training services to student athletes. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Health, Wellness and Student Success Manager and report to the Head Athletic Trainer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate student athlete wellness and develop treatment and rehabilitation programs to prevent injuries.
  • Recognize and evaluate injuries, and develop treatment and rehabilitation programs to aid in recovery.
  • Coordinate with physicians, athletes, coaching staff, parents, and other allied health professionals to ensure effective treatment and rehabilitation.
  • Counsel athletes and staff on proper athletic training and injury rehabilitation techniques.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or a related field of study.
  • Completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements.
  • Previous experience providing athletic training at the high school or college level as an intern or certified Athletic Trainer is preferred.
  • BOC certification and CPR/AED certification for a Professional Rescuer and first aid.
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) required.

Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt probationary position scheduled to work 10 months each year. The compensation for the 10 months of work will be paid out over 12 months with two months observed (June and July). The salary earned for months worked will ultimately be pro-rated to a 10/12 salary schedule and paid over 12 months in equal increments, with benefits covered for the entire 12 months.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
