About the Department
The Chicana and Chicano Studies Department at San José State University is a leading institution in the field of Chicana/o Studies. Our department is committed to providing students with a comprehensive education that prepares them to critically examine and address intellectual traditions and contemporary issues resulting from political, historical, economic, and cultural constructs of race, class, and gender, and as they manifest in Chicanx and US Latinx communities.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Lecturer in Chicana and Chicano Studies to join our faculty pool. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching lower and upper division courses in Chicana/o Studies, as well as serving as a mentor and advisor to students. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Chicana/o Studies methodologies and/or the Ethnic Studies discipline, and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Responsibilities
- Teach lower and upper division courses in Chicana/o Studies, including courses on Chicana/o history, culture, and identity
- Develop and implement curriculum that reflects the department's commitment to social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Advise and mentor students in the Chicana/o Studies major and minor
- Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and professional development
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chicana/o Studies or a related field
- Experience teaching courses in Chicana/o Studies or a related field
- Strong background in Chicana/o Studies methodologies and/or the Ethnic Studies discipline
- Commitment to social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion
Working Conditions
This is a part-time, non-tenure track position. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variable course load, with the possibility of teaching online or in-person courses. The position is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations.
