STRUCTURES TECHNICIAN (FALCON)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Modify, repair, assemble, and install components and subcomponents for rockets and spacecraft.
  • Utilize tooling holes, pilot holes, or manual methods as necessary, following detailed drawings or tooling instructions.
  • Align parts and secure them using clecos or tooling/hand clamps.
  • Install fasteners in the correct sequence according to drawings, employing appropriate tools such as rivet guns, drill motors, and power screwdrivers.
  • Shim and/or trim components as required.
  • Select appropriate drill bits, reamers, and countersinking tools for various hole sizes.
  • Locate and drill pilot holes using drill motors and the correct size drill bits.
  • Drill, ream, and countersink full-size holes in parts/assemblies, ensuring proper sequence and dimensions.
  • Set countersinking tools to the required depth.
  • Disassemble components and deburr holes using chip chasers and deburring tools to prepare for fastener installation.
  • Clean surfaces with solvents prior to sealing or assembly.
  • Apply sealants, Alodine, primers, adhesives, and special finishes.
  • Load and unload ovens for bonding detail parts to assemblies.
  • Determine and acquire the correct type and size of fasteners.
  • Cold work holes to prepare for close tolerance fastener installation.
  • Install bushings into housings using arbor presses or hydraulic pullers.
  • Utilize liquid nitrogen to assist in the installation of bushings.
  • Verify the completeness of work after each operation and upon job completion to ensure adherence to drawings.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in hardware assembly, testing, maintenance, material handling, or installation, or a certificate from an accredited trade skills program in A&P, manufacturing, or electronics.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in drilling, reaming, honing, and countersinking straight and close tolerance holes.
  • Experience gained through military service or within an aviation manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with various hand tools, hand-held power tools, floor-mounted power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Able to visualize three-dimensional shapes from two-dimensional views and comprehend symbols, flag notes, and general notes.
  • Competence in performing basic arithmetic calculations accurately.
  • Experience in creating basic layouts on parts or assemblies to establish reference points and check dimensions.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work all shifts, including overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • Physical requirements include repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 25 lbs. unassisted.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Structures Technician/Level 1: $27.00/hour
Structures Technician/Level 2: $32.50/hour
Structures Technician/Level 3: $38.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis, influenced by job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one aspect of your total rewards package at SpaceX. Additionally, you may accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays annually.
